Meet the Maker: Ilona Golovina
Ilona Golovina is a New York–based ceramic artist. Self-taught in ceramics, her practice is grounded in traditional vessel forms while pushing into texture, asymmetry, and material experimentation.
Her work is shaped by an intuitive, hand-built process that draws on ancient techniques, often pushing clay to the verge of collapse. She works with clay and soil as expressive materials, treating each piece as both a physical object and a container for emotion, memory, and gesture.
We're drawn to Ilona's work for its restraint, irregularity, and quiet strength. Her vessels feel at once ancient and contemporary — tactile, sculptural, and deeply atmospheric. In each piece, texture and form carry a sense of time, imperfection, and presence.
At aépho, we curate objects that bring calm, material depth, and lasting character to a space. Ilona's moon jars and vessels reflect that sensibility beautifully — grounded in craftsmanship, yet expressive enough to feel like art. This is work that asks to be lived with slowly.
